Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and its Sustainability Reporting Standards Board
The statutory body for chartered accountants, which also sets India's sustainability assurance standards.
Official siteBackground
ICAI was set up under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949. Its Sustainability Reporting Standards Board (SRSB) works on sustainability reporting and assurance.
Scope and powers
ICAI issues accounting and auditing standards for its members. Through the SRSB, it issued SSA 5000, a sustainability assurance standard that takes effect from 1 April 2027 and replaces SSAE 3000 and SAE 3410. ICAI also set up a self-regulatory organisation for social auditors who assess Social Stock Exchange impact reports.
Investor relevance
ICAI standards decide how BRSR Core and other sustainability data are assured, which affects how much investors can rely on them.
