    Background

The IFRS Foundation also oversees the International Accounting Standards Board. The ISSB was announced at COP26 in November 2021 and absorbed the Climate Disclosure Standards Board and the Value Reporting Foundation.

    Scope and powers

The ISSB issued IFRS S1 (general sustainability disclosures) and IFRS S2 (climate) in June 2023, amended IFRS S2 in December 2025 with effect from 2027, and maintains the SASB Standards. More than 40 jurisdictions are adopting or using its standards.

    Investor relevance

ISSB standards are becoming the common language of sustainability disclosure across markets. India's BRSR is not yet based on them, but Indian companies with global investors increasingly report against them.
