    Background

UNEP FI was set up in 1992 and works with banks, insurers and investors worldwide.

    Scope and powers

It convenes the Principles for Responsible Banking and the Principles for Sustainable Insurance, and co-founded the Principles for Responsible Investment with the UN Global Compact.

    Investor relevance

A bank's or insurer's signature on these principles is a voluntary commitment. Check its reports for targets and progress, not just membership.
