    Background

    The Climate Bonds Initiative is an international non-profit focused on mobilising the bond market for climate solutions.

    Scope and powers

    It runs the Climate Bonds Standard and certification scheme with sector criteria, and publishes market data. Its May 2026 figures show more than $7 trillion of aligned green, social, sustainability and related debt issued since 2006.

    Investor relevance

    CBI certification is one of the stricter checks on a green label, and its data is a common source for market size figures.
