Climate Bonds Standard
ESG & GovernanceA certification scheme run by the Climate Bonds Initiative that checks bonds and other debt against science-based criteria for each sector.
The standard sets sector criteria, for example for solar, wind, buildings, transport and some industrial activities, and uses approved verifiers to certify that a bond meets them. Version 4.0 of the standard extends certification beyond use-of-proceeds bonds to sustainability-linked debt and to whole companies that are on, or moving to, a 1.5°C pathway. The Climate Bonds Initiative certified the first tranche of Japan's sovereign Climate Transition Bonds. SEBI's ESG debt framework recognises the standard.
