Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)

The international organisation behind the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and due diligence guidance.

    Official site

    Background

The OECD is an intergovernmental organisation of mainly advanced economies. India is not a member but works with it as a key partner.

    Scope and powers

The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, updated in 2023, set expectations on responsible business conduct, including due diligence on human rights, labour and environment. National Contact Points in adhering countries handle complaints. The OECD also leads international work on corporate taxation.

    Investor relevance

EU and other due diligence laws draw on OECD guidance, so Indian suppliers to multinational companies face these expectations indirectly.
