Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ)

A coalition of financial institutions set up in 2021 to speed the transition to net zero, restructured at the start of 2025.

    Background

GFANZ was launched in 2021 around COP26, bringing together sector alliances for banks, asset managers, asset owners and insurers.

    Scope and powers

After a string of departures, it announced at the start of 2025 that institutions would no longer join through sector alliances or need a net zero commitment. It now focuses on public-private partnerships, work with development banks and transition finance.

    Investor relevance

The loosening of GFANZ and its alliances means climate commitments now rest mainly on each institution's own policies.
