    Background

    The TNFD was launched in 2021 by market participants, governments and civil society groups.

    Scope and powers

    It published its recommendations in September 2023, following the four-pillar structure of the TCFD, together with the LEAP approach (Locate, Evaluate, Assess, Prepare) for assessing nature-related issues. Its work is feeding into the ISSB's research on nature.

    Investor relevance

    Nature risks such as water stress and biodiversity loss matter for agriculture, food, mining, cement and real estate. TNFD-style reports help investors see where a company depends on nature.
