CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent)
ESG & GovernanceA common unit that expresses the warming effect of any greenhouse gas as the amount of carbon dioxide with the same effect.
Different gases trap heat with different strength. To add them up, each gas is converted to CO2e using its global warming potential. One tonne of methane, for example, counts as roughly 27 to 30 tonnes of CO2e over 100 years. Corporate emissions are reported in tonnes of CO2e (tCO2e), and one carbon credit or Carbon Credit Certificate usually represents one tCO2e.
