Disclaimer of opinion
ESG & GovernanceAn audit report in which the auditor declines to give any opinion because it could not collect enough evidence.
Under SA 705, an auditor disclaims an opinion when the possible effects of missing evidence are both material and pervasive. This often happens when records are missing, management does not cooperate or there are many uncertainties at once. A disclaimer is as serious as an adverse opinion: it means no one has been able to confirm the numbers.
