Unmodified opinion
ESG & GovernanceA "clean" audit opinion stating that the financial statements give a true and fair view.
Most audit reports carry an unmodified opinion under auditing standard SA 700. It means the auditor found no material misstatement. It does not mean the company is healthy, well run or free of fraud; it means the accounts, as presented, follow the accounting rules in all material respects. An unmodified opinion can still include an emphasis of matter paragraph, which deserves careful reading.
