Maturity = P(1 + r/n)^(nt)
How to use this
Enter the amount you plan to deposit, the bank's annual interest rate, and the tenure in months. Then choose how often interest is compounded: most Indian banks compound fixed deposits quarterly, so that is the default. The effective annual yield shows what the quoted rate is really worth once compounding is counted. It is the fairer number for comparing deposits that compound at different frequencies. The calculator models a cumulative deposit, where interest is added back and paid out at maturity. With a payout option instead (interest paid to your account every month or quarter), nothing compounds and the deposit simply returns your principal at maturity. Banks may also calculate very short tenures or part periods with simple interest, so the bank's own figure can differ slightly. Interest on a fixed deposit is taxed at your income tax slab rate.
