Controversy score
ESG & GovernanceA measure of how serious a company's involvement is in ESG-related incidents, such as accidents, protests, fines or fraud allegations.
Providers judge an event by its severity, scale, duration, recurrence and the company's response. Scales differ: some use levels from 1 to 5, some use colour flags, and some use a 0 to 100 score where lower means worse. India's Nifty100 ESG indices exclude companies with a controversy score below 70. Controversy data leans on news coverage, so well-known companies may show more controversies.
