CSR (corporate social responsibility)
ESG & GovernanceA company's spending on social and environmental causes outside its core business; in India, a legal requirement for larger companies.
Section 135 of the Companies Act applies to companies with a net worth of ₹500 crore or more, turnover of ₹1,000 crore or more, or net profit of ₹5 crore or more in the previous year. They must spend at least 2% of their average net profit of the last three years on activities listed in Schedule VII. CSR is different from ESG: CSR is spending outside the business, while ESG is about how the business itself is run.
