Greenhushing

    ESG & Governance

Deliberately saying little or nothing about climate targets or progress, to avoid scrutiny or criticism.

Greenhushing is the opposite of greenwashing. A company may cut back its climate disclosures because it fears accusations of greenwashing, legal action, or political backlash. The result is less information for investors. Silence is not evidence of good or bad performance; it is simply missing data. Where a company's peers disclose climate targets and it does not, treat the gap as a reason to ask questions.
