    A rating approach that judges a company against peers in its own industry rather than against all companies.

    Industry-relative ratings choose the ESG issues that matter for each industry and rank companies within it. This lets an investor find the best-managed company in any sector. The drawback is that the best company in a high-risk sector can rank as a "leader" while still carrying more absolute risk than an average company in a low-risk sector.
