PAT scheme (Perform, Achieve and Trade)
ESG & GovernanceIndia's market-based scheme, from 2012, that set energy efficiency targets for large industrial plants and let them trade energy saving certificates.
PAT was run by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency. Its first cycle covered 478 plants in eight sectors and saved 8.67 million tonnes of oil equivalent, about 30% above target. Plants that beat their targets earned ESCerts. Sectors are now moving from PAT to the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme.
