Estimated ESG data
ESG & GovernanceESG figures modelled by a data provider when a company has not disclosed them, for example estimated emissions based on industry averages.
Estimates fill gaps, especially for smaller companies and for Scope 3 emissions. They can be useful but may be far from the real figure. Good providers flag which figures are estimated and explain the method. Financed emissions under PCAF use a similar idea, with data quality scores from 1 (reported and verified) to 5 (estimated from sector averages).
