Impact washing

    ESG & Governance

Claiming measurable social or environmental impact without evidence, or for results that would have happened anyway.

Impact washing is common in fund marketing and SDG reporting. A fund may call itself an "impact" fund simply because it holds companies in sectors linked to good outcomes, without measuring results or showing that its money made a difference. Real impact needs intention, measurement and additionality. Ask what was measured, against what baseline, and whether the outcome would have happened without the investment.
