Non-fossil capacity
ESG & GovernanceInstalled electricity generating capacity from sources other than fossil fuels: renewables, large hydro and nuclear.
India reached 50% non-fossil installed capacity in June 2025, five years ahead of its 2030 target, and 51.93% of 513.73 GW by 31 December 2025. Its goals are 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 and a 60% share by 2035. Capacity is not the same as generation: because solar and wind run only part of the time, coal still produces most of India's electricity.
