Physical intensity
ESG & GovernanceEmissions or energy use per unit of physical output, such as tonnes of CO2e per tonne of steel or cement.
Physical intensity is the fairest way to compare plants and companies within the same industry, because it does not depend on prices. India's CCTS sets its targets in physical intensity terms (tCO2e per tonne of equivalent product), and the EU's CBAM charges importers based on the embedded emissions per tonne of goods.
