Scope 1 emissions
ESG & GovernanceDirect greenhouse gas emissions from sources a company owns or controls.
Scope 1 includes fuel burned in the company's own boilers, furnaces, kilns and vehicles, process emissions from chemical reactions (such as making clinker for cement) and leaks of gases such as refrigerants and methane. It is the part of the footprint a company controls most directly, and it is the main basis of carbon costs under schemes such as India's CCTS and the EU ETS. Scope 1 is a BRSR Core indicator.
