Water withdrawal
ESG & GovernanceThe total water a company takes in from all sources, such as rivers, groundwater, third-party supply and the sea.
The BRSR asks for withdrawal by source. High groundwater withdrawal in a water-stressed area is a particular risk, because it can lead to regulatory limits, community conflict or physical shortages. Withdrawal is not the same as consumption: a plant that withdraws water for cooling and returns most of it uses less than its withdrawal suggests.
