Zero liquid discharge (ZLD)

    ESG & Governance

A water treatment approach in which a plant recycles all its wastewater and discharges no liquid effluent.

ZLD systems treat and reuse wastewater, often recovering salts or solids. They cut freshwater needs and pollution, but they cost money to build and run and use a lot of energy. In India, pollution control boards have required ZLD for certain industries in some areas, such as textile dyeing and distilleries. A ZLD claim should be backed by discharge data.
