1.5°C goal

    ESG & Governance

The Paris Agreement aim of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

The Paris Agreement's main goal is to keep warming well below 2°C, while pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. Scientific assessments by the IPCC show that the risks of climate change rise sharply between 1.5°C and 2°C. Many corporate net zero targets and science-based targets are described as "1.5°C-aligned". Treat that label carefully: check whether the target covers all scopes, has interim milestones, and relies on real reductions rather than offsets.
