Paris Agreement

    ESG & Governance

The 2015 international climate treaty that aims to keep warming well below 2°C and to pursue a 1.5°C limit.

The Paris Agreement was adopted in December 2015 under the UNFCCC. Every party sets its own climate plan, called a Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), and must submit a new one every five years. A global stocktake reviews collective progress, and Article 6 sets rules for international carbon trading. The agreement is binding on process (submitting and reporting plans) but not on achieving the targets. The United States left the agreement with effect from 27 January 2026.
