Emissions intensity of GDP
ESG & GovernanceA country's greenhouse gas emissions per unit of economic output, the main form of India's national emissions target.
India's targets are to cut emissions intensity of GDP by 45% by 2030 and 47% by 2035, both from 2005 levels. The government reports a 36% cut between 2005 and 2020. Because the target is an intensity, total emissions can keep rising if GDP grows faster than emissions intensity falls. At company level, the equivalent measure is carbon intensity.
