Gender pay gap (median)
Formula
Gender pay gap (median)
Gender Pay Gap (%) = (Median pay of men minus Median pay of women) ÷ Median pay of men × 100
Variables
| Median pay of men | The middle value of annual remuneration for men in the group |
| Median pay of women | The middle value of annual remuneration for women in the same group |
Finding the inputs
The BRSR (Principle 5) gives median remuneration by gender for the board, key managerial personnel, employees other than these and workers. Calculate the gap separately for each group.
Reading the number
A positive figure means women's median pay is lower. The median reduces the effect of a few very high salaries. The gap mainly reflects where women sit in the pay structure, so read it together with the gender diversity ratio at each level. A rising share of women in senior roles should narrow the gap over time.
